We ask everyone who decides to come to Fenns Meadow Natural Burial to follow our Terms & Conditions.

 This helps keep our beautiful site as Peaceful, Tranquil and as Natural as possible. 

Terms and Conditions of Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground.


Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground is a Private Cemetery. Next of Kin, Family & Friends are given Permissive Rights to access the site during daylight hours as long as our Terms and Conditions are followed.


By following these Terms & Conditions, you are confirming that you have visited Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground, that you understand its Ethos and that you are in compliance with how the site is maintained and managed. By signing these Terms & Conditions you are agreeing to adhere to our policies below:


1. All visitors to the Site are requested to give due consideration, privacy and respect to any funeral, memorial ceremonies or services taking place at the time. It is requested that mobile phones be switched off at the Site.

2. In harmony with the aims of a Natural Burial Ground, no gardening of burial plots will be allowed. This includes grass cutting or removal of turf on or around graves or trees or on the site as a whole.

3. No ornaments, toys, photographs or other memorials may be placed upon graves, with the exception of the stone marker plaques provided by Fenns Meadow Burial Ground.We reserve the right to remove any items that are deemed inappropriate. Please see point 17a

4. Containers such as vases, pots, bottles or baskets are not permitted. We reserve the right to remove any items that are deemed inappropriate. Please see point 17a

5. The planting of wildflower seeds or plants is NOT permissible on graves. This includes potted plants, bedding plants, ferns, heathers, roses, trees, shrubs and other vegetation etc. For information regarding the planting of any plants/flowers etc please contact Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground.

6. The picking, cutting or pruning of flowers, shrubs and trees is prohibited on the site as a whole.

7. The Company reserve the right to remove anything found on the Site that it deems inappropriate to the ethos and aims of a Natural Burial Ground.

8. In order to provide for a more natural environment, the Site will be mown & maintained at the discretion of the managers. Paths will be mowed on a more regular basis allowing visitors access to the various burial areas within the site. The maintenance of the site is managed and carried out by Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground. There is a programme followed that may vary from year to year depending on weather etc

9. Litter is to be disposed of by visitors themselves and are requested to take any litter for disposal off site.

10. No dogs or any other domestic animals or pets are allowed on site.

11. Children under 18 years of age are not allowed on the Site without an accompanying adult or with the specific permission of the Company.

12. No ball games or electronic games, nor the use of drones that emit noise are allowed on any part of the Site.

13. Amplified music is prohibited at the Site except with the express permission of the Company. Acoustic instruments may be played only when they will not disturb other visitors, ceremonies or services.

14. No bikes, picnics, camping, vehicles, horses or overnight stays are permitted on any part of the Site, including the car park, verge or gateways.

15. Visitors must not unnecessarily disturb the wildlife. No shooting, fishing or hunting is permitted.

16. Access to the site is via the kissing gate unless there is a funeral, whereby the main gates will be unlocked to allow for Funeral Directors, parking & mourners access to the site.

17. In extreme circumstances we reserve the right to prohibit access to Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground if persistent breaking of our Terms and Conditions occurs. Please see point 19.

18. A person without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property or is reckless as to whether and such property is destroyed shall be guilty of that offense.

19. Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground has a Zero Tolerance to abusive, aggressive or harassing behaviour (whether verbally, physically, via email/social media etc) to ourselves, our site, mourners, our patrons, Grave Diggers, Funeral Directors and their employees and/or any other person(s) that are associated with Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground. We reserve the right to ask ANYONE to leave the site and remove permissive access to the site forth with.

 

A: When signing your ‘Right of Burial and Authority’ or ‘Notice of Interment’ you are bound by and agree to Fenns Meadows Terms and Conditions.


1a. Plots must be purchased or reserved directly from Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground. Plots purchased via other means will not be recognised.

2a. After pre-purchasing your plot(s) there is a 30 day cooling off period, where the deed may be returned and all monies refunded. After 30 days the monies paid is non-refundable.

3a. If the reserved plot(s) has not been used after 40 years and the deed holder cannot be contacted by the details given to Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground, then they will assume that the plot is no longer required. Monies already paid will not be refunded.

4a. It is the responsibility of the deed holder to ensure that the company has the up-to-date contact details.

5a. A standard plot allows for a 3 feet wide coffin, including handles. If the coffin is wider than this, then an extra charge will be required for the larger area needed.

6a. If you wish for Pet Ashes or Pets to be placed inside or with the casket or urn, then there is a charge per pet. We at Fenns Meadow will require the paperwork and details of each pet.

7a. You have no rights or ownership(s) of your plot(s)until paid for in full.

8a. Leasing a plot on the site does not authorise ownership of the ground or any other rights to the site.
9a. The Client acknowledges and accepts that the Company reserves the right in its absolute discretion to cancel the Agreement between the Company and the Client forthwith should there be any matter of dispute or the inability of the Company to provide the Service. The Company may refund to the Client, where applicable and in the Company's absolute discretion, all monies paid by the Client for the provision of the Services under this Agreement. Please see Point 19.

10a. Interments may be arranged with Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground in normal office hours Monday to Thursday 9am-5pm. Surcharges may be applied for interments on weekends or bank holidays, depending on staffing.

11a. In order to ensure a healthy ecosystem for the nature reserve, and in tune with its ethos of care for the environment, the Company only accepts the use of fully biodegradable and environmentally-friendly coffins or urns. These include coffins/urns made of wicker, bamboo, softwood, recycled paper (papier-mâché) and recycled board. Shrouds, ideally in natural fibres, are also acceptable.

12a. A body that has been embalmed, or otherwise treated with noxious and toxic chemicals, cannot be interred at the Site.

13a. Interments cannot take place at the Site until the death has been legally registered and the appropriate documentation received by the Company.

14a. The location and placement of any purchased burial plot is at the discretion of the owners of Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground.

15a. Cremated remains may only be scattered in the woodland area, under the direction of the owners.

16a. Cremated remains must be interred in biodegradable caskets or boxes, or poured directly into the grave plot. Plastic urns provided by some crematoria are not biodegradable and therefore cannot be interred.

17a. Flowers, offerings and other tributes may be placed on graves at the time of a funeral or memorial ceremonies and services. These will be removed by the Company after five days (or when deemed appropriate by the Company) in order to ensure that any non-biodegradable matter is taken from the Site and natural ground cover is allowed to develop.

18a. Trees adopted as living memorials in the woodland area of the Site are guaranteed for 5 years: if a tree dies during that period, it will be replaced. After that time, the woodland will begin to develop naturally, with some trees growing more vigorously than others. For this reason, the Company encourages an understanding that the woodland as a whole is the lasting memorial.

19a. Wooden memorials/tree plaques are guaranteed for 12 months. After this time, if the memorial deteriorates then Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground reserves to remove the memorial.

20a. Stone markers if damaged by the company will be replaced, unless they have been altered and moved by anyone other than Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground.

21a. All memorials will be placed onsite by ourselves. No memorial may be be tampered with/moved or adjusted. If a memorial is found to be out of place, please contact us and we will reset the memorial.

22a. Visitors to the Site must comply with the Local Authorities Cemeteries Order 1977, Article 10

, Paragraph 6, and with the Criminal Damages Act 1971, Article 1, Section 1. 

23a. The Owners of Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground reserve the right to place plots where they deem to be appropriate. It is solely at the discretion of the owners as to the placement of any pre-purchased plots, with regards to other burials that may have taken place before-hand.

24a. Your Burial Plot allows you a 99 year agreement from the moment of fully paid purchase.

25a.  These Regulations may, from time to time, be altered according to need, and such alterations may be carried out at the discretion of the Company.


These Terms & Conditions have been set out to ensure that Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground can maintain and preserve its burial ground as closely to its natural form as possible.

Our aim is to create:


"A Peaceful resting place for those that have passed on and for those that wish to mourn them in a tranquil natural environment."


The Terms and Conditions set out by Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground may be updated or altered according to such need. Such alterations may be carried out at the discretion of Fenns Meadow Green Burial Ground and you are advised to regularly review these Terms & Conditions.
